The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the 14th Governing Council of the University of Calabar, DIG. Udom U. Ekpoudom(Rtd) has assured the University of Calabar Community of his readiness to work for the growth of the University.

The Pro-Chancellor gave the assurance during an interactive  Meeting with Staff of the University held at the Institution's International Conference Centre.

DIG Udom Ekpoudom (Rtd) said he was delighted over his appointment as the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Calabar saying, "This is my place and for me, it is a homecoming".He said during his Service to the Nation as a Police officer, he had worked in different states and in various capacities during which he had been given several tasks which he had handled well, so he is not expecting to work less in Unical.

In his words; "I have been working in other parts of the country. Do not expect me to do less here. This is my place.

"I am here to work. The University has a very high standard. By the time we finish our four years, it will be higher."

While suing for the cooperation of everyone, he added,"A tree cannot make a forest. The Council alone cannot make Unical. We need to join hands together to make it better."

DIG Ekpoudom said the issue of insecurity in the University campus and its environs would soon be a thing of the past because he is ready to put in place all necessary measures to curb insecurity.

This is even as he said, anyone who has any vital information on how to nail the perpetrators should not hesitate to bring up such information, warning that, anyone who is responsible for giving out information to criminals when caught, will be sanctioned without mercy.

In a clear demonstration of his resolve to hit the ground running, the Unical Governing Council Chairman announced the creation of a welfare Committee to be Headed by himself, adding that, as long as he remains the Council Chairman, Staff and Students will smile.

The Pro-Chancellor in the same vein cautioned against all forms of malpractice, emphasizing his strong aversion to the unethical practice.

In a remark, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Florence Banku Obi said she was happy that the Chairman alongside other members of the Governing Council decided to interface with the University Community.

Prof. Obi said she was also happy that leaders of the various Unions in the institution have spoken; pledging their support and loyalty to the Council and equally highlighting some of their challenges to the Chairman and Members of the Council.

She used the opportunity to further assure the University community that the Pro-Chancellor came with packages that will help in improving the welfare, as well as, the revenue base of the University.

This is even as she appreciated everyone for making time to attend the event despite the inclement weather.

Earlier, the Chairmen or representatives of the various University Unions, as well as, Presidents of the Students' Union Government (SUG) and the Post-Graduate Students' Union Government (PGSUG) took turns expressing their excitement over the appointment of the Pro-Chancellor and other eminent Nigerians into the University's Governing Council.

This is even as they expressed the hope that the Chairman and Governing Council Members will look into areas of utmost concern to staff.

The event featured a detailed citation of the Pro-Chancellor as eloquently  and brilliantly presented  by the University Registrar  and Secretary of the Governing Council, Mr Gabriel Egbe.
