IAS - UNN To hold 5th Chinua Achebe International Conference

The management of the university of Nigeria, Nsukka had announced plans to hold the 5th edition of the Chinua Achebe International Conference.

This was contained in a publication sighted by Myschoolnews on the school's website.

The publication reads:

SPECIAL INVITATION TO THE OPENING OF THE IAS-UNN 5TH CHINUA ACHEBE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION

All members of the University community are specially invited to the opening ceremonies of the IAS-UNN 5th Chinua Achebe International Conference and exhibition scheduled for 20th – 22nd July, 2023.

The conference is organized in collaboration with the Pearson Institute for the Study and Resolution of Conflict, University of Chicago, on the theme Political and Economic Transformations in Africa since the 19th Century: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives. It promises to gather academics from Nigeria and abroad at our University to re-assess Chinua Achebe’s prognosis on leadership problems in Africa vis-à-vis developmental challenges that have morphed into transnational crimes and democratic reversals. An exhibition of contemporary art (entitled Transformations: Nsukka Artists on Africa’s Political and Economic History) is also scheduled to open in our newly renovated museum/gallery as a visual articulation of the conference theme.

While our Keynote Paper will be delivered by Francis O. C. Njoku (Professor of Philosophy, University of Nigeria, Nsukka) on “Inspirations from Cosmology for Addressing Political Economy and Coordination Problems”, the Lead Paper will be given by Ikenna Dieke (Professor Emeritus, University of Arizona, USA) on “Chinua Achebe’s Arrows of God: Self and Subjectivity: Some Lessons for Political Leadership in Contemporary Africa (especially Nigeria)”.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I look forward to having your esteemed presence during the conference opening ceremony at 11am (Venue: Niger Hall, CEC) and at the opening of the accompanying art exhibition at 4:30pm (Venue: Institute of African Studies Museum) this Thursday, July 20th, 2023.

You may join the conference opening ceremony via Google Meet through this link: https://meet.google.com/tqc-tcqb-kxg

We promise to keep strictly to the time schedule by God’s grace.

Signed

Professor Ozioma Onuzulike
