According to the Students Union Government President, Jacob John Mutuwa, the situation began when Samuel Ejembi alerted soldiers to alleged cult activities involving some students. The soldiers apprehended both the informant and the accused students, including Achinya, who was later found dead after reportedly being tortured. His body was taken to the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia.
The Acting Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Nurudeen Mu’azu Maifata, has called for peace amidst the unrest. Legal action has been initiated against the alleged perpetrators, and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged for immediate justice. NANS has also implicated soldiers from the 123 Special Force Battalion in the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Nasarawa State, DSP Ramhan Nansel, has promised to investigate the matter further. At the time of this report, no official response had been issued from the police.
