KHAIRUN Pays Courtesy Visit To Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila
The management of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), on Tuesday, 14th April 2026, paid a historic courtesy visit to Al-Istiqama University (AUSU), in a move aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and mutual development. The delegation was led by the Vice-Chancellor of KHAIRUN, Professor Abdulrashid Garba.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Garba expressed profound appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor of AUSU for the warm reception accorded to him and his team. He noted, with a touch of humility, that KHAIRUN management felt “indebted,” considering the numerous visits previously made to KHAIRUN by both the former and current leadership of AUSU.
He thanked Almighty Allah for granting them the opportunity to finally undertake the long awaited visit, describing AUSU as a dependable partner and a true friend of KHAIRUN. He particularly commended the university for consistently honoring invitations to participate in staff training programmes, seminars, and other academic engagements.
Prof. Garba highlighted the shared values between the two institutions, especially their foundation as private universities with strong Islamic orientation. He further provided a brief overview of KHAIRUN, noting its distinctive academic structure which mandates four compulsory programmes for all students: Qur’anic recitation and memorization, moral instruction, entrepreneurship, and international languages.

Reflecting on his previous visit to AUSU in 2022, he remarked that although he never anticipated becoming a Vice-Chancellor at the time, several best practices observed during that visit have since been adopted and implemented at KHAIRUN. He concluded by congratulating the AUSU Vice-Chancellor on his achievements and wishing him continued success.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor of AUSU, Professor Abdulhadi Sale Kumurya, warmly welcomed the KHAIRUN delegation on behalf of the Proprietor, Senator Sulaiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, the Governing Council, Senate, management, and the entire university community.
Prof. Kumurya expressed deep appreciation for the visit, describing it as a great honour to receive his mentor, Prof. Abdulrashid Garba. He acknowledged the significance of the visit despite the demanding schedule of the KHAIRUN Vice-Chancellor.
He also provided a brief history of AUSU and emphasized the need for both institutions to deepen collaboration through structured partnerships. He proposed areas of cooperation including joint research projects, academic publications, conferences, workshops, and community engagement initiatives.
To formalize this collaboration, he urged both universities to mandate their respective Registrars to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), describing the visit as one rooted not only in formality but also in mentorship and shared vision.
Prof. Kumurya concluded by expressing gratitude to the KHAIRUN delegation and offered prayers for their safe journey back.
The visit marks a significant step toward fostering stronger academic ties, mutual growth, and strategic partnership between the two institutions.
