The Alumni of the Mathematics Department at Lagos State University (LASU) have recently acknowledged and rewarded exceptional academic achievements by five students, awarding them a total sum of N300,000. These students exhibited outstanding performance by attaining the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) during the 2022–2023 academic session within the Mathematics Department at the university.

The N300,000 award was evenly distributed among the five selected students, spanning across the first, second, and third years of the department. The presentation of the cash prize took place during an orientation program designed for newly-admitted students within the department, which occurred on Tuesday at the LASU Ojo campus.

Representing the university administration, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Vice-Chancellor, was present and delivered an address through Prof. Lawal Adigun, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. In her address, Prof. Olatunji-Bello commended the recipients of the award, urging them to perceive it as a motivation to further excel in their academic endeavors.

She stated, "The scholarship award will go a long way toward encouraging our brilliant students to continue to work hard and focus on their studies without distractions. I also commend the department for exposing its students to their rights and responsibilities."

Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance for students to familiarize themselves with the university's regulations and guidelines as outlined in the students' handbook. She encouraged adherence to these rules to ensure a smooth and productive academic journey at LASU.

Concluding her remarks, Prof. Olatunji-Bello urged the students to steer clear of any form of misconduct and to remain devoted to their academic pursuits. This reinforcement of academic integrity and dedication aims to foster a conducive learning environment for all students within the Mathematics Department at Lagos State University.
