The Lagos State University (LASU) contingent to the 27th Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA), hosted by the University of Jos, Plateau State, from 6th to 16th November 2025, formally presented their medals to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, on Tuesday, 20th January 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.

The Lagos State University (LASU) contingent to the 27th Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA), hosted by the University of Jos, Plateau State, from 6th to 16th November 2025, formally presented their medals to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, on Tuesday, 20th January 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.

The LASU team delivered a remarkable performance at the competition, winning 39 medals—10 gold, 14 silver, and 15 bronze—to finish fifth overall out of 74 universities nationwide, marking the highest placement in the University’s history at NUGA Games.

Professor Simeon Dosunmu, Chairman of the LASU Sports Council, commended the University Management for their unwavering sponsorship and support, which he described as pivotal to the team’s success. He appealed for continued backing to sustain LASU’s participation and competitiveness in future national and inter-university sports events.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, extended warm congratulations to the athletes, highlighting that LASU continues to stand as a leading force in university sports. She praised the team’s exemplary conduct, noting that they served as outstanding ambassadors for the University in both FASU and NUGA competitions.

The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the athletes to aim even higher in future competitions, emphasizing a focus on gold medals across all sporting disciplines. She reaffirmed the University’s commitment to student-athletes, promising that all requests and support requirements would receive due attention. A token reward was also approved for all medallists in recognition of their achievements.

In a symbolic gesture, the Chairman of the Sports Council decorated the Vice-Chancellor with a gold medal, while top-performing athletes were similarly honoured by the Vice-Chancellor.

On behalf of the team, LASU female team captain, Miss Noshoodat Ayoola, expressed profound gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and University Management for their steadfast support, which enabled the contingent to compete with pride and confidence. She affirmed the team’s commitment to upholding LASU’s values of excellence in future competitions.

The event was attended by representatives of the University Registrar and Bursar, Acting Dean of Student Affairs, the Deputy Director of Sports, team coaches, and members of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.
