Odumeru Ameerah Adefowope, a Nursing student at Lagos State University (LASU), has completed her degree with First Class Honors, achieving the top position in her class and receiving the College of Medicine’s Award of Excellence.
Odumeru Ameerah Adefowope, a Nursing student at Lagos State University (LASU), has completed her degree with First Class Honors, achieving the top position in her class and receiving the College of Medicine’s Award of Excellence.
Her journey was far from ordinary. In 2022, Ameerah was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, which forced her to defer four semesters. Demonstrating remarkable courage and determination, she underwent a bone marrow transplant in May 2023, and by September, she had resumed her studies. Despite the challenges, she not only graduated with First Class but also qualified as both a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife.
The inspirational story captured public attention after her sister shared a viral X post juxtaposing her past struggles with her graduation triumphs. The post garnered over 11,000 likes, with many celebrating her resilience and drawing personal motivation from her journey.

Ameerah’s achievement stands as a testament to perseverance, dedication, and the human spirit’s ability to overcome adversity, inspiring students and professionals alike.
