Mathematics Graduate Overcomes Odds to Earn First-Class Honors

In an inspiring tale of perseverance and academic excellence, Abiodun Ismail Jamiu has defied the odds to graduate with First-Class Honors in Mathematics Education from Ekiti State University (EKSU).
His journey, marked by setbacks and resilience, serves as motivation for students facing similar challenges. Jamiu’s story is not one of immediate success.
After graduating from secondary school in 2015, he spent five additional years in Arabic school before finally securing admission into EKSU in 2019.
His initial struggles were evident—he scored 198 out of 400 in his JAMB examination and faced difficulties adjusting in his first year of university.
However, through unwavering determination, self-discipline, and consistent effort, he transformed his academic trajectory.
From an initial GPA of 3.83, Jamiu steadily improved his performance, ultimately graduating with an outstanding CGPA of 4.65/5.00.
His achievements extend beyond academics, as he emerged as the second-best graduating student in the Faculty of Science Education for the 2022/23 session.
Jamiu’s leadership roles and extracurricular involvement further highlight his exceptional qualities.
Additionally, he mentored over 150 students and tutored more than 1,000 across seven faculties, helping others achieve their own academic success. He also pursued professional certifications, earning recognition as an Associate of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and a professional student of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
Reflecting on his success, Jamiu attributes his achievements to persistence, faith, and strong support from his family, friends, and lecturers.
His aspirations do not stop at a first-class degree—he is now setting his sights on a career in finance, mathematics, and data analysis, aiming to become a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and pursue postgraduate studies.
Jamiu’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience and self-improvement, proving that setbacks are only stepping stones to greatness.
His story serves as an inspiration for students striving to overcome challenges and achieve academic excellence. “Success is not about where you start, but how you persist and grow.” – Abiodun Ismail Jamiu."
