McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has promoted three senior academics to the rank of Professor, following approval by the Governing Council and University Management at the 49th Council meeting on Thursday, October 20, 2025.

The promotion reflects the University’s ongoing commitment to recognising excellence in teaching, research, and institutional service while strengthening its academic workforce.

Professor Babatunde Lawal, a specialist in Accounting and Finance, is among the promoted scholars. In addition to his teaching and research contributions, he serves as Chairman of the Space Allocation Committee, overseeing strategic utilisation of campus facilities, and has been instrumental in mentoring junior colleagues. His elevation acknowledges years of impactful service and leadership.

Professor Michael Osho, an expert in Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology, also earned promotion. At the time of approval, he was serving as Acting Dean of the College of Postgraduate Studies, providing oversight for postgraduate teaching, supervision, and research activities. His academic portfolio includes numerous peer-reviewed publications and innovative research projects.

The third promoted academic, Professor Olubunmi Ajibade, is a leading figure in Mass Communication and currently serves as Acting Director of the Centre for Continuing Education and Chairman of the Senate Business Committee. His work in academic administration and curriculum development has significantly enhanced communication studies and institutional governance.

University Management confirmed that all three academics met rigorous criteria for promotion, demonstrating excellence in scholarship, professional achievements, and institutional service. The promotions followed a thorough assessment aligned with national academic standards and are expected to motivate continued productivity and innovation among faculty members.

During a staff weekday devotion, Vice-Chancellor Professor Francis Igbasan congratulated the newly promoted professors, commending their commitment to excellence and encouraging them to further enhance the University’s visibility and research output. He expressed confidence that their leadership would inspire broader academic progress across McPherson University.
