The General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria (FGCN) and Visitor to McPherson University, Rev. Dr. Sam Aboyeji, has urged newly matriculated students to pursue academic excellence with purpose and intentionality.

Addressing the students, Rev. Dr. Aboyeji introduced the “5Ds to Distinction”—Desire, Diligence, Discipline, Determination, and Divine Help—as core principles for achieving both academic and moral success on campus.

He emphasized that students must cultivate a strong desire to excel, complementing it with diligence and discipline in their studies. Determination, he noted, would enable them to remain steadfast in the face of challenges, while divine help would guide them through their academic journey.

The Visitor further encouraged students to set clear goals and priorities, stressing that effective use of time on campus is crucial to achieving their aspirations. He warned against complacency and the misuse of opportunities, highlighting that success largely depends on consistent effort and focus.

Concluding his address, Rev. Dr. Aboyeji offered prayers for the matriculating students, committing them to God’s care and asking for wisdom, protection, and excellence throughout their studies at McPherson University.
