MOUAU VC Directs Refund of School Fees to Students Who Paid Before NELFUND Disbursement

The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Professor Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, has directed that students who paid their school fees before receiving support from the Federal Government’s Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) scheme should be refunded.

Professor Akanwa announced the decision during the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Students’ Union Government (SUG) executives of the university. She disclosed that she had instructed the University Bursar to begin the process of refunding affected students.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the move was aimed at ensuring that students who made payments before the release of the NELFUND loan would not lose the opportunity to benefit from the government’s education support programme.

Professor Akanwa also encouraged students to register their courses promptly after resumption for the 2026/2027 academic session, noting that early course registration would enable the university to commence academic activities smoothly and prevent avoidable delays.

She further charged the newly inaugurated SUG executives to uphold responsible leadership, maintain peace on campus, and collaborate with the university management in advancing students’ welfare and the overall development of the institution.
