Mutfwang Appoints Ex-SSG as New VC for Plateau Varsity

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has appointed Prof. Shedrack Best, a former Secretary to the State Government, as the new Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University located in Bokkos Local Government Area.

The appointment follows the recent dismissal of Prof. Bernard Matur, the former VC, and four other heads of state-owned tertiary institutions. The announcement of Prof. Best's appointment was made in a statement dated February 7, 2024, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau.

Governor Mutfwang also appointed four other heads for state-owned tertiary institutions, including the College of Education, Gindiri. Dr. Lazarus Maigoro, a former chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities at the University of Jos, was appointed as the new Provost of the College of Education, Gindiri.

All appointments are effective immediately, with the new appointees urged to address the relationship between management and staff, as well as the financial management of the institutions, to enhance service delivery.

Meanwhile, the Butura host community of Plateau State University has condemned the removal of Prof. Matur, describing it as illegal and detrimental to the university's growth. In a joint statement by Butura Youth President, Marshal Sule, and Secretary, Tabai Kawai, the community asserted that Prof. Matur's removal did not follow due process and called for his immediate reinstatement.
