The Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo (AFUED) chapter of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has inaugurated its new executive team, set to oversee the association’s activities for the next four years.

The newly sworn-in officials include Comrade Gbadamosi Lasisi (Caretaker Chairman), Saliyu Mutiu (Secretary), Oloyede Idaya (Treasurer), and Akinwonmi Babalola and Adesina Ayodeji as Members 1 and 2, respectively.

During the inauguration on Wednesday, 18th February 2026, the Vice-Chancellor of AFUED, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, congratulated the executive and commended the union for holding peaceful elections. He highlighted the critical role of technologists in national development, emphasizing the need for continuous training to enhance their skills and contributions to society.

Representing the National President of NAAT, Comrade (Hon.) Ibeji Nwokoma, the South West Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Olawumi Samuel Akinade, urged the new executive to abide by the union constitution, pursue self-improvement, and collaborate with university management to advance institutional development.

The ceremony featured the admission of the union’s oath of allegiance, and the formal presentation of key union documents—including the 2009 Federal Government Agreement and registration papers—to the Caretaker Chairman, Comrade Gbadamosi Lasisi. Lasisi pledged to uphold members’ trust and expressed gratitude to university management for providing a conducive environment for union activities.

The event also included a lecture by Dr. Bello Olawale of the Department of Physics, Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA). Speaking on “Effective Leadership Strategies for Laboratory Professionals,” Dr. Olawale emphasized that success in leadership requires humility, integrity, resilience, mentorship, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking. He advised members to engage in conferences and workshops to remain updated on global trends in their fields and appealed to governments to allocate more resources for the training of academic technologists to boost national development.

The inauguration concluded with a donation of medical equipment to the university health center by NAAT AFUED, including four intravenous (IV) stands, ten packets of hand gloves, and ten packets of nose masks.

The event was attended by Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola (VC AFUED), Comrade Olawumi Samuel Akinade, Dr. Kehinde Adenegan (Rector, Adeyemi College of Technology, Ondo), Dr. Bello Olawale, as well as deans, directors, HODs, staff, and students of the university.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the NAAT AFUED chapter, reinforcing professionalism, collaboration, and community support among academic technologists.
