NANS Zone C Issues Ultimatum to Nasarawa State University Management

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone C has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the management of Nasarawa State University (NSUK) to reverse the newly introduced damage fee and reinstate the Students' Union Government (SUG).

In a statement, Daniel Friday Egga, CNS Coordinator of NANS Zone C, expressed strong opposition to the mandatory five thousand naira damage fee included in the school fee. Egga described the increment as "unnecessary and insensitive" considering the current economic situation in the country.¹

NANS Zone C has written to stakeholders, including the Executive Governor, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, the Chancellor, and Pro-Chancellor, as well as security agencies, to express their concerns and demands.

The association is also demanding the immediate reinstatement of the SUG, which was suspended by the management. NANS Zone C believes that this suspension is "undemocratic and unjust".

If the management fails to comply with their demands within the stipulated timeframe, NANS Zone C has threatened to take further action, including confrontations and relocation of their secretariat to the university.

In the meantime, the association has urged students to remain calm and not pay the school fees until the matter is resolved.

This development comes after NSUK students had previously pledged to shun protests and advocate for dialogue in July 2024.² However, it seems that the current situation has forced NANS Zone C to take a more assertive stance.
