Nasarawa State University Optimistic of End to ASUU Strike, Urges Students to Remain Calm
The Management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has expressed optimism that the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), NSUK chapter, will be called off shortly.

The Management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has expressed optimism that the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), NSUK chapter, will be called off shortly.
The university, under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, acknowledged concerns among students over the disruption of academic activities and appreciated their patience, maturity and calmness throughout the industrial action.
In an update issued by the management, students were urged to continue maintaining calm as efforts are being made to restore academic activities as soon as possible.
The management recalled that the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State and Visitor to the University recently held a joint meeting with the university-based unions, including ASUU, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), alongside the university management.
At the meeting, the State Government presented proposals to the unions.
According to the university, ASUU-NSUK subsequently held a Congress meeting last Wednesday, where the union accepted the offer made by the State Government and expressed appreciation for the intervention and commitment of the Visitor.
The ASUU-NSUK Executive also met with the university management on Monday, August 31, 2026.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss matters of mutual interest, particularly the implementation of the resolutions reached by the union’s Congress.
The management said the positive developments had strengthened its optimism that the strike would be called off shortly.
The university, however, expressed concern over reports of plans by some students to stage a protest on campus and appealed to students to maintain peace.
While recognising students’ right to peaceful assembly, the management reminded them that any protest within the university must comply with established procedures.
The procedures include:

Prior written notice to the university authorities stating the reason for the protest.

Identification of the protest leaders who will interface with the management.

Disclosure of the proposed date, time and venue of the protest.
The management warned that any protest staged without fulfilling these conditions would be deemed unlawful.
It further stated that in such circumstances, relevant law enforcement agencies may be invited to maintain law and order, while students involved could face disciplinary action, including appearance before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
According to the management, recommendations to Senate arising from such disciplinary proceedings could include dismissal from the university.
The university appealed to students, whom it described as being under its care in loco parentis, to avoid actions that could jeopardise their academic progress and wellbeing.
Students with information concerning any planned action were encouraged to discreetly report such information to the Dean, Student Affairs, with the university assuring that their confidentiality would be fully protected.
The management expressed confidence that the industrial action was approaching an end and reaffirmed its commitment, under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, to the welfare of students and the restoration of normal academic activities.
