NIMASA Conducts Cholera Prevention Campaign at UNIMAID Staff Primary School as African Mathematics Group Rewards Excellence

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) conducted a health awareness programme for pupils of the University of Maiduguri Staff Primary School on Friday, 5th June, 2026, educating them on the causes, symptoms, and prevention of cholera.

During the programme, the pupils were advised to drink clean water, wash their hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet, and maintain clean surroundings at all times to prevent the spread of the disease.

The facilitators also explained the emergency measures to be taken when a person is suspected of having cholera. They stressed the importance of giving the patient clean water or Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and ensuring that the individual is taken to the nearest clinic or hospital immediately for proper medical attention.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Central Administration, Professor Babagana Bako, commended the initiative and urged the pupils to keep their environment clean and share the knowledge acquired with their families and friends.

In his remarks, the Headmaster of the Staff Primary School, Mallam Saleh Ebet Ahmed, expressed appreciation to the organisers for enlightening the pupils on cholera prevention. He encouraged the children to practise good hygiene habits daily by washing their hands regularly and drinking clean water.

As part of the event, the Group of African Mathematics presented awards to outstanding pupils in recognition of their excellent performance in Mathematics. The organisers congratulated the award recipients and encouraged all pupils to remain dedicated to their studies and cultivate a strong interest in Mathematics.
