The Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education (NOCEN), Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, was among dignitaries and worshippers who attended the solemn dedication of the Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral in Nnewi on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

The historic церemony was officiated by Cardinal Francis Arinze, who in his homily urged the congregation to become “living temples” by deepening their spiritual lives, loving one another, and actively spreading the Word of God.
In her goodwill message, Dr. Anyadiegwu expressed confidence that the newly dedicated cathedral would serve as a centre of hope, grace, and spiritual renewal for the community, while also reaching out to those in need of faith and guidance.
A major highlight of the event was the formal dedication rite, which featured the traditional anointing of the altar and the cathedral walls, symbolising the consecration of the building as a sacred place set apart for worship.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Most Rev. Jonas Benson Okoye, gave thanks to God for His guidance, blessings, and sustenance in making the dedication a reality. He also appreciated the church’s benefactors and all participants for their support and presence at the ceremony.
