NPMCN Team Visits OAUTHC for Family Medicine Reaccreditation Exercise

The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, NPMCN, paid a working visit to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, OAUTHC, Ile-Ife, on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

The visit was part of the College’s regular reaccreditation exercise aimed at assessing the Family Medicine Department of OAUTHC to ensure the provision of quality postgraduate medical training and effective healthcare delivery.

Welcoming the team, the Chief Medical Director of OAUTHC, Prof. John Okeniyi, highlighted some of the achievements of his administration. He noted that priority had been given to quality, accessibility and affordability of healthcare delivery across the five units of the hospital. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the continued growth and development of the hospital.

Prof. Okeniyi assured the team of his readiness to act promptly on recommendations arising from the exercise in order to further strengthen healthcare delivery and postgraduate medical training within OAUTHC. He, however, identified delayed funding resulting from prolonged bureaucratic processes as one of the major challenges confronting his administration.

The Chief Medical Director reiterated his determination to continue advancing the cause of quality healthcare delivery and medical training across all units of OAUTHC.

In his remarks, the team lead, Prof. Abraham Gyuse of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, who spoke on behalf of the delegation, commended the management of OAUTHC for the warm reception accorded the team. He also acknowledged the level of development recorded at the hospital since the commencement of Prof. Okeniyi’s tenure as Chief Medical Director.

Prof. Gyuse stressed that the team would conduct the exercise professionally, objectively and transparently. He assured that its report would be based strictly on its assessment of the Family Medicine Department across the various units of the hospital.

In his closing remarks, the Director of Administration, Dr. Ayodeji Bobade, commended the NPMCN team for its candour, passion and commitment to duty. He said he was particularly impressed by the team’s dedication to medical professionalism and its commitment to maintaining high standards in postgraduate medical training.
