NSUK French Students Earn Standing Ovation at “French-Up Your Career” Forum in Abuja

The Department of French at the Nasarawa State University Keffi has recorded a strong academic and creative showing at the 4th edition of the “French-Up Your Career” forum, held at the University of Abuja Law Auditorium.

The event, which took place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, brought together nearly 200 students from several institutions, including the host university, Veritas University, Kaduna State University, and NSUK. It was organized by the French Embassy in Nigeria in collaboration with the French Institute and the University French Teachers Association of Nigeria (UFTAN).

The forum focused on the role of French language proficiency in expanding global academic and career opportunities for students across Nigeria.

A major highlight of the event was a 15-minute drama competition in which each participating university was required to perform entirely in French. NSUK’s delegation distinguished itself with a polished and culturally rich performance that earned a full standing ovation from the audience—reportedly the only one of the day.

The performance was widely praised by dignitaries, including Mme. Magaly Losange, Linguistique Attachée at the French Embassy in Nigeria, who described the presentation as outstanding and reflective of high-level training within the university’s French programme.

Observers at the forum noted that the result reinforced NSUK’s growing reputation in language studies, attributing the consistency to strong academic leadership within the Department of French, led by Dr. Anjugu T., alongside Mrs. Lois Abu O., who accompanied the students.

The achievement comes shortly after NSUK’s participation in the 2026 International Francophonie Day held on March 28, where the institution was the only Nigerian university invited to represent tertiary education at the national celebration in Abuja.

In a reaction issued by the department, the leadership expressed appreciation to the university management, academic colleagues, and external partners for their continued support.

The statement credited the success to collaboration between departmental staff, faculty leadership, and a management team described as intentional about expanding opportunities for students in global language education.

Acknowledgment was also extended to the French Embassy in Nigeria, the Institut Français du Nigeria, UFTAN, and the University of Abuja for their continued recognition of NSUK as a key partner in French language development and academic exchange.
