The Faculty of Law at NewGate University, Minna (NUM) has officially launched Student Week 2026, a vibrant celebration of legal knowledge, leadership, and societal impact.
This year’s theme, “From the Courtroom to the Community: Law in Everyday Life,” focused on exploring how law operates beyond the courtroom, influencing homes, workplaces, markets, governance systems, social media, and wider communities.
The event emphasized that while legal proceedings are critical, the ultimate value of law is realized in its ability to shape and improve society. Students engaged in discussions and activities highlighting the practical applications of legal knowledge in everyday life, underscoring the importance of socially conscious legal practice.
The week’s highlight featured Barrister Umar Adamu Aliyu, Principal Partner at Musaba Chambers, as the special guest speaker. He delivered an insightful lecture drawing on real-life experiences, advising young lawyers on how to bridge the gap between legal advocacy and community transformation. His presentation inspired students to view law not merely as a profession, but as a powerful tool for leadership, service, and societal development.
