Prof. Musa Toyin Yakubu Elected Fellow of African Academy of Sciences

Professor Musa Toyin Yakubu, former Director of the Central Research Laboratories at the University of Ilorin and distinguished alumnus, has been elected a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS).

Professor Musa Toyin Yakubu, former Director of the Central Research Laboratories at the University of Ilorin and distinguished alumnus, has been elected a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS).

The announcement was made on Monday, November 24, 2025, during the Science Forum for South Africa (SFSA) held in Pretoria.

The election, confirmed via a letter dated November 21, 2025 from the AAS Secretary-General, Dr. Friday E. Okonofua, entitles Prof. Yakubu to append “FASS” to his name in recognition of his outstanding contributions to science and academia. Prof. Yakubu, who previously served as Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Ilorin, had earlier received the Fellowship of the Nigerian Academy of Science in 2021.

In a statement, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, praised Prof. Yakubu, a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry, for bringing distinction to the institution. He encouraged other members of the University community to emulate Prof. Yakubu’s dedication and enterprising spirit to sustain the University’s prominence at national, continental, and global levels.
