Taraba State University Poised for Growth as NUC Conducts Resource Verification for New Programs

The Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, Professor Sunday Paul Bako, alongside members of his management team, today received the second batch of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Resource Verification Team at the University’s Senate Chamber.

The visit marks another significant milestone in the University’s continuous commitment to academic growth, quality assurance, and institutional development under the purposeful leadership of Prof. Bako. Welcoming the delegation drawn from various institutions across the country, Professor Bako described Taraba State University as a centre of excellence and reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to expand its academic frontiers. 

In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that TSU is set to become the first university in Northern Nigeria to commence a B.Ed. Special Needs Education, alongside several other new academic programmes.

He further noted that over the past two to three years, almost all programmes presented to the NUC for accreditation have been successfully accredited, a development that has strengthened the University’s confidence to introduce additional programmes. According to him, this progress reflects the University’s dedication to meeting national academic standards and addressing emerging educational and manpower needs. The programmes presented for resource verification include:

Medical & Health Sciences: Inclusion of Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Radiography.

Technology & Innovation: New degrees in Data Science, Software Engineering, and Information & Communication Technology.

Communication & Media: Specialized tracks in Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, and Broadcasting.

Arts & Humanities: Expansion into Philosophy, Classics, and varied Religious Studies including Sharia and African Traditional Religion.

Education: New offerings in Educational Psychology, Human Kinetics, and Entrepreneurship Education.
