TASFUED Don Wins Prestigious Japanese Research Fellowship

The Tai Solarin Federal University of Education, TASFUED, Ijagun, has recorded another significant milestone in its drive for global academic visibility, as Prof. Adeyemi Abayomi Awofala of the Department of Biological Sciences, College of Science and Information Technology, COSIT, has been awarded the prestigious Matsumae International Foundation, MIF, Research Fellowship in Japan.

The highly competitive fellowship, awarded annually to a select group of outstanding researchers from across the world, will provide Prof. Awofala with the opportunity to undertake a six-month research programme at the Hokkaido University Institute for Genetic Medicine, Sapporo, Japan.

Prof. Awofala’s research focuses on “Cancer Prevention and Control,” leveraging the advanced laboratory facilities and research infrastructure available at the renowned Japanese institution to deepen scientific understanding and contribute to improved approaches to cancer management.

The Matsumae International Foundation Fellowship, established in 1979, is recognised internationally for supporting outstanding researchers through research opportunities in Japan. The fellowship is awarded to only a limited number of scholars globally each year, making Prof. Awofala’s selection a notable academic achievement.

His fellowship further underscores the growing research capacity and international recognition of TASFUED, while providing an opportunity for the University to strengthen its global academic linkages and contribute to cutting-edge research in the biological sciences.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Oladipo, MNPA, CMCPN, MCAN, FIELPN, commended Prof. Awofala for the feat, describing his selection for the prestigious fellowship as a remarkable achievement and a source of pride to TASFUED.
