Tinubu Urges NOUN to Transition to Full Online University
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to transition into a full online university, leveraging its expertise in Open and Distance Learning (ODL).
The President made the call at the 14th Convocation Ceremony of NOUN, emphasizing the need for the university to harness cutting-edge digital tools to ensure accessibility, flexibility, and quality education.
Tinubu directed NOUN to spearhead digital learning advancements across Africa, maximizing its potential as a hub for ODL. He also announced that the Tertiary Education Fund (TETfund) has been directed to provide optic fibre services to NOUN to improve its virtual and online learning programmes.
The President reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to supporting education through strategic interventions, ensuring that education remains inclusive and technologically-driven. He emphasized that the initiative will harness the power of technology to improve access to education and foster inclusivity, addressing Nigeria's educational challenges.
Tinubu assured NOUN of the Federal Government's full support for the transition, ensuring that necessary policies, infrastructure, and resources are in place to facilitate a seamless and sustainable transition. He also urged NOUN to build local capacity to take full advantage of employment opportunities in the information technology sector.
