TRCN Inducts 759 New Teachers at AFUED Ondo
The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has inducted no fewer than 759 persons into the teaching profession at the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo.
The inductees included 707 degree holders, 52 Nigeria certificate in Education (NCE) holders and Two Masters Degree holders who were accepted into the fold of the teaching profession at an event, which held on Wednesday November 12, 2025 in the Institution.
In her address on the occasion, the Registrar/ Chief Executive, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Dr. (Mrs) Ronke Soyombo, described the occasion as a milestone, stating that by undergoing the programme, and completing it successfully, the inductees have now “become part of a professional community, that is being re-defined by innovation, integrity and impact”.
Represented by Mrs. Olufunlayo Oniyide, the TRCN boss, Soyomobo, described AFUED as “One of Nigeria’s foremost institutions distinguished by its unwavering commitment to academic excellence and leadership in teacher education”.
She used the occasion to highlight some of the achievements recorded by the orgainsation in recent time to include, the introduction of digital Teacher Portal, Artificial Intelligence integration, Standardized Lesson Note Templates, Career path framework as well as Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD), which she said are aimed at elevating teaching profession in Nigeria.
Reiterating importance of teachers in society, Soyombo admonished the inductees to see themselves as transmitters of knowledge, mentors, motivators and moral compasses, when they step into the classrooms to teach across the country.
The TRCN boss also emphasized the need for the graduands to embrace technology, upholds ethics and pursue excellence, stating that the move would enhance their relevance in society.
While stressing the need for the inductees to abide with oath of practice, which they have sworn to, the TRCN boss, said “any violation of its terms, or any breach of professional conduct carries serious consequences and may attract sanctions under the law”, asserting that the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is fully committed to maintaining the integrity of the profession”.
Also in his remarks on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola lauded the TRCN and appreciated its Registrar, Dr. (Mrs) Ronke Soyombo and staff of the organisation “for their unwavering commitment to advancing Professional standards in education.
The University Administrator also commended the TRCN for the removal of the one-year validity period previously placed on its certificates stating that “this thoughtful decision has allowed our graduates from recent years to process their certificates with ease”.
While congratulating the graduands, Prof. Popoola said, “Dear inductees as you leave this auditorium today, I urge you to go, out with confidence, diligence and integrity. Let your light shine wherever you go and be the kind of teacher who not only educates, and inspires but also transforms lives. Go and make us proud as ambassadors of Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo”, he remarked.
On ways of making subsequent induction ceremony more colourful, Prof. Popoola dropped hint of plan to introduce conferment of award on eminent personalities, who have made valuable contributions to development of Education in Nigeria stating that the plan would commence from next year, when another induction ceremony would hold in the institution.
In her remarks the Registrar of the AFUED, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede, charged the graduands to see teaching as “God ordained process saying” as qualified teachers, you do not just pass on knowledge but you are also to mould characters, instill discipline and nurture future leaders”.
The well attended event which held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Auditorium in the University had important personalities from all walks of life in attendance.
They included, the Vice-Chancellor, AFUED, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, his Deputy, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao and representative of the Bursar, AFUED, Mr. Taye Omotayo.
Also present were senior officials from the TRCN Ondo State Office, Akure, Ondo State, Mr. Adesina Akande; Director of Examination and Records, AFUED, Mr. S. O Omobolade as well as Staff and Students of the University to mention but few."
