UCH Holds Hospital-Wide Grand Round to Mark Health and Safety Day
The University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, in collaboration with its Health and Safety Committee, on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, held a Hospital-Wide Grand Round at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Multipurpose Hall, South Campus.

The September edition was organized to commemorate Health and Safety Day with the theme “Improving Health and Well-being of Hospital Workers.”

In her opening remarks, Professor Folasade Omohkodion explained that the programme was designed to enhance the safety of healthcare workers while at work, thereby ensuring their overall well-being.

The session featured a series of presentations by experts. Dr. Taiwo Soyinka, Consultant Family Physician and Head of the Staff Medical Services Department, delivered a lecture on “Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle and Self-Care.” She emphasized the importance of intentional personal health practices, self-love, regular vaccinations, and concluded that “only a healthy worker can be truly productive.”

Dr. Victor Makanjuola, Consultant Psychiatrist, spoke on “Promoting Mental Well-being among Hospital Workers.” He highlighted workplace risk factors that impact mental health and outlined strategies for improvement, stressing that both individual staff and management share responsibility for promoting workers’ psychological well-being.

On her part, Dr. Oluwatomi Owopetu, Consultant Public Health Physician and Head of the Total Quality Management Department, presented on “Ensuring a Conducive Environment for Psychosocial Well-being: What Can We Do?” She underscored the need for inclusive and fair workplace policies, as well as effective feedback mechanisms to ensure management remains responsive to staff needs.
The Chief Medical Director of UCH, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, represented by Professor Olusola Olawoye, Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (Clinical Services), reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of its workforce. She noted that UCH remains guided by the principle of “Patient comfort and staff welfare.”

In her closing remarks, Professor Olawoye urged all stakeholders to continue working together, declaring: “Together, let us build a healthier workforce for a wealthier hospital.”
