UI Rejoices with Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, on 60th Birthday

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, on behalf of the Council, Senate, Congregation, Staff and Students of the University of Ibadan today, Wednesday, 02 September 2026 rejoices with the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Kashim Shettima, GCON, on the celebration of his 60th birthday.

The Vice President, an alumnus of UI who obtained a Master's degree in Agricultural Economics in 1991 from the institution was decorated as the only Ambassador Plenipotentiary of the UI@75 Anniversary celebrations. 

Professor Adebowale described the Vice-President as a visionary leader who is loyally dedicated to Nigeria’s progress for the greatness of the country and the citizens.

He noted that the Vice-President had carried forward the University's core values of excellence in character and learning and had proven himself to be a reliable, competent, and selfless public servant who has distinguished himself in both private and public offices.

The Vice-President had a successful career as a lecturer and banker before entering public service where he served Borno State diligently as Commissioner, Governor, and Senator representing Borno Central before he assumed office as Vice-President of Nigeria on May 29, 2023.

On the occasion of his 60th birthday, Professor Adebowale wished His Excellency, Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, good health and more wisdom as he continues to serve our dear country, Nigeria.
