UMTH Initiates Internal Probe into Allegations of Medical Negligence

The Management of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) has formally launched a comprehensive investigation into allegations of medical negligence and unprofessional conduct following the death of a patient, Alhaji Nuhu Dantani.

The decision follows a formal petition submitted by Hamza N. Dantani, Esq., of Potent Attorneys, regarding the circumstances surrounding the patient’s passing on March 31, 2026.

In a formal response dated April 17, 2026, the Hospital’s Director of Administration, Idriss Omar, writing on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, acknowledged receipt of the petition. He expressed the Management’s "heartfelt condolences" to the bereaved family while emphasizing the seriousness with which the institution views the claims.

“We understand the gravity of the concerns raised and wish to assure you that the Hospital takes allegations of medical negligence and unprofessional conduct seriously,” the statement read.

The Hospital Management confirmed that a thorough investigation has been initiated to examine the alleged systemic failures and professional lapses. The administration assured the family and the public that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure justice is served, strictly adhering to established medical standards and legal procedures.
