UNIABUJA VC Urges University Community to Speak Against Corruption and Misconduct
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, has called on members of the university community to reject silence in the face of wrongdoing, stressing that corruption thrives when people fail to speak up against unethical practices.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, has called on members of the university community to reject silence in the face of wrongdoing, stressing that corruption thrives when people fail to speak up against unethical practices.
Fawehinmi made the call during the University’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Sensitisation Programme organised in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the institution’s zero-tolerance stance against corruption, sexual harassment, cultism, examination malpractice, and all forms of misconduct capable of damaging the university’s values, credibility, and reputation.
He emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in promoting accountability, transparency, and ethical conduct among staff and students.
Delivering the lead paper at the event, the Provost of the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN), Professor Ghali Ibrahim, stated that strong institutional policies and effective anti-corruption frameworks are critical to protecting the integrity of Nigerian universities and improving accountability within the higher education system.
The Chairman of the University’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), Professor Philip Oyediran, described the programme as a renewed call for members of the university community to actively reject corrupt practices and uphold integrity in their various responsibilities.
The sensitisation programme, themed “From Silence to Action: Empowering the University Community to Champion Transparency,” featured presentations from the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Jedy-Agba, who was represented at the event, as well as Professor Sherif Ghali Ibrahim of the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria.
The speakers highlighted the need for collective action, ethical leadership, and sustained commitment to strengthening transparency, integrity, and good governance within the university system.
