UNILAG 3rd Adeboye Chair Occupier Advocates for Advanced Cryptographic Research and Interdisciplinary Synergy
The 3rd Occupier of the Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye Professorial Chair in Mathematics at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Temitope Jaiyeola, FNYA, has issued a compelling call for the intensification of cryptographic research to secure Nigeria’s digital future.
Delivering a landmark presentation at the University, Professor Jaiyeola emphasized that robust mathematical frameworks are the backbone of modern security and innovation. He argued that for Nigeria to thrive in the global digital economy, there must be a deliberate shift toward interdisciplinary collaboration, merging pure mathematics with practical applications in cybersecurity and technological development.
Professor Jaiyeola, a Fellow of the Nigerian Young Academy (FNYA), highlighted that cryptography is no longer a niche academic pursuit but a critical national asset. His recommendations included:
Enhanced Research Funding: Prioritizing mathematical research that addresses real-world security vulnerabilities.
Cross-Faculty Synergy: Encouraging mathematicians to work alongside engineers, computer scientists, and policy experts to drive holistic innovation.
Global Competitiveness: Positioning UNILAG and Nigeria as hubs for advanced cryptographic solutions.
The Pastor Enoch Adeboye Professorial Chair in Mathematics was established to promote academic excellence and research in the mathematical sciences. As the third scholar to occupy this prestigious seat, Professor Jaiyeola’s tenure is expected to focus on bridging the gap between theoretical mathematics and the urgent technological needs of the 21st century.
The University management lauded the Professor’s vision, noting that his call for collaboration aligns with UNILAG's mission to remain a "University of First Choice and the Nations Pride" through impactful research and strategic partnerships.
