UNILAG Security Unit honours outgoing VC Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe in grand style in a special parade, myschoolnews learnt that Ogundipe leadership sponsored 80 security personnel on Spy Police Training at the Police College, Ikeja.
Security Unit of the University of Lagos, on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, held a special parade in honour of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, FAS.
The honorary parade which held at the Senate Parking lot, according to the Chief Security Officer of the University, Mr. Sunday Alao, was to acknowledge, appreciate and celebrate Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe for his innovative and dynamic leadership approach as well as his commitment to the growth and all-round development of the University of Lagos.
Mr. Alao particularly commended the Vice-Chancellor for breaking the jinx and ensuring the emergence of a substantive Chief Security Officer (C.S.O.) within the rank and file of the Security Unit.
The C.S.O. also showered encomiums on Prof. Ogundipe for his interest and commitment to capacity building as shown in the sponsoring of 80 security personnel on Spy Police Training at the Police College, Ikeja among other training opportunities so far accorded the rank and file of the Unit.
Mr. Alao also appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for his timely and consistent support for the Security Unit, one which he said attests to the zero cultism, drastic reduction in vices and the blissful ambience being experienced on campus.
While congratulating Professor Folasade Ogunsola who takes over from Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe as the 13th Vice-Chancellor come November 12, 2022, Mr. Alao assured of the continued loyalty of every member of the Security Unit towards the sustenance of law and order in UNILAG.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, was full of gratitude to every member of the Security Unit for the honour.
The ceremony also served as another opportunity for Prof. Ogundipe to again acknowledge and appreciate the combined team of security officials for their loyalty and dedication to duty, a feat he said, accounts for the robust security being enjoyed across UNILAG.
While harping on the imperativeness of periodic training and capacity building for enhanced productivity, Prof. Ogundipe identified the training for the UNILAG security personnel as a token of his belief and commitment to the growth and development of every member of staff, an agenda his successor would sustain.
The ceremony which was also graced by the wife of the Vice-Chancellor, Mrs Oluwaseun Ogundipe alongside other management staff of the university saw Professor Ogundipe being gifted award plaques as a token of acknowledgment and appreciation of his support, commitment and immense contributions towards the welfare and growth of every member of the UNILAG Security unit. Prof. Ogundipe had earlier inspected the Guard of Honour mounted by the combined team of Security officials who were in formations. There was also a marchpast by troop units and shouting of three hearty cheers to honour and celebrate Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, as his 5-year tenure of office winds down. The Band group from the University of Lagos International School was also on ground to add sound and colour to the occasion.
