UNILAG’s Dr. Margaret Ilomuanya Secures Gates Foundation–Backed Grand Challenges Research Grant
Dr. Margaret Ilomuanya, Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos (UNILAG), has been awarded a prestigious Grand Challenges research grant for an 18-month innovative healthcare project.
Dr. Margaret Ilomuanya, Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos (UNILAG), has been awarded a prestigious Grand Challenges research grant for an 18-month innovative healthcare project.
The grant will support the development of a novel, multifunctional microneedle patch for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding, a condition that affects millions of women globally and remains under-addressed in many low- and middle-income countries.

The award is funded by the Gates Foundation through Grand Challenges, a global initiative that promotes breakthrough innovations and strategic partnerships aimed at solving critical health and development challenges.
The Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, on behalf of the University Senate and the entire University community, congratulated Dr. Ilomuanya on the achievement and expressed confidence in the successful delivery and impact of the project.
