The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has announced the schedule for its 39th convocation ceremonies, celebrating the 2022/2023 academic session's graduands. The events will take place from 11th to 27th October 2024 at the university’s main campus.

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has unveiled the schedule for its 39th convocation ceremonies, which will celebrate the 2022/2023 academic session's graduands. The events will take place from Friday, 11th October to Sunday, 27th October 2024 at the university’s main campus.

In an official statement released by the university’s Registrar, M.A. Alfanla, the convocation will commence with a Juma’at service on Friday, 11th October at the UNILORIN Central Mosque. This will be followed by an interdenominational worship service on Sunday, 13th October at the Chapel of the Light, also located on campus.

The convocation week will feature several key events, including a press briefing by the Vice-Chancellor on Thursday, 17th October, and a convocation lecture by the Honourable Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN, on Friday, 18th October. The lecture, themed “Nurturing Democratic Values for the Future of Education in Nigeria,” will focus on pressing educational challenges in the country.

The main convocation ceremonies will begin on Monday, 21st October, with the awarding of first degrees and diplomas to graduands from the Faculties of Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Communication and Information Sciences, Education, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Management Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences.

On Tuesday, 22nd October, students from five- and six-year programs will receive their degrees, including postgraduate degrees from the Faculties of Agriculture, Engineering and Technology, Environmental Sciences, Basic Clinical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Law, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Sciences (OP), and Veterinary Medicine.

Graduands are expected to complete all required payments for academic gowns, transcripts, and convocation materials. The fees range from N15,000 for PhD students to N26,500 for undergraduate students.

The convocation celebrations will also include a luncheon and the commissioning of new projects by the university’s visitor. The ceremonies will conclude with a thanksgiving service at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy on Sunday, 27th October.
