The University of Port Harcourt has formally commenced preparations for its 36th convocation ceremony with the inauguration of a central planning committee ahead of the May event.

The inauguration, held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the institution’s Council Chambers, was led by the Vice-Chancellor, Owunari Abraham Georgewill, who charged committee members with delivering a seamless and impactful ceremony.

He described the convocation as a strategic platform for projecting the university’s academic milestones and institutional progress, emphasizing the need for coordination, efficiency, and strict adherence to established standards.

The committee is chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Rosemary Ogu, and includes representatives drawn from key operational units such as administration, security, media, logistics, and protocol.

The week-long convocation is scheduled to run from May 18 to May 23, 2026, featuring a convocation lecture, award presentations, and the conferment of degrees on graduating students.
