UNIPORT Celebrates Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi on Appointment as Substantive VC of University of Abuja
The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) community has expressed pride and joy over the appointment of Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, a distinguished Professor of Clinical Anatomy and Biomedical Anthropology, as the Substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja.
The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) community has expressed pride and joy over the appointment of Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, a distinguished Professor of Clinical Anatomy and Biomedical Anthropology, as the Substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja.
The appointment was approved by the 11th Governing Council of the University of Abuja, chaired by Distinguished Senator Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso, and announced at the 80th Extraordinary Meeting of Council on Friday, 7th November 2025. Professor Fawehinmi’s tenure will commence on 10th February 2026 for a non-renewable term of five years.
A proud alumnus and ambassador of UNIPORT, Prof. Fawehinmi has served the university in multiple leadership capacities, including two-time Head of the Department of Anatomy (2005–2009), Associate Dean (2010–2012), Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences (2012–2014), and two-term Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) (2016–2020).
His outstanding academic and administrative contributions have earned him several prestigious recognitions, including Fellowship of the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland (FRAI) and Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Specialties of Nigeria (FAMedS).
UNIPORT community members have congratulated Prof. Fawehinmi for this milestone, celebrating his remarkable achievements, leadership, and continued service to higher education in Nigeria.
