The Management of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), led by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. (Mrs.) Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, has paid a courtesy visit to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to strengthen collaboration in the area of reliable power supply.
The visit, which focused on reducing the hospital’s cost on tariff plans and exploring broader opportunities for partnership, was described by Prof. Ize-Iyamu as crucial to improving healthcare delivery.

“Reliable power supply is central to healthcare delivery. When there is light, there is healing and vision. UBTH is committed to its statutory duty as the last hope for the common man. We are not profit-driven but service-driven, and we make efforts to make healthcare very affordable. We therefore appeal for a review of the current charges given to UBTH to enable us serve our patients better,” she said.
The CMD further emphasized that stable and affordable electricity would boost the hospital’s efficiency and have a direct positive impact on patient care.

Responding, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of BEDC, Engr. Jonathan Lawani, welcomed the UBTH delegation and congratulated Prof. Ize-Iyamu on her appointment as the first female Chief Medical Director of the hospital. He assured that the hospital’s requests would be tabled before the company’s management and board.

The meeting underscored UBTH’s commitment to partnerships that foster sustainable healthcare delivery through affordable and reliable electricity supply.
