University of Ibadan VC Emphasizes Importance of Collaboration in Research

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, has reiterated the institution's commitment to promoting impactful research through partnerships.

He made this statement while receiving a team from the Strengthening Health Systems Capacity in Africa for Pandemic Equity and Responsiveness (SHARPER) project, led by Professor Ademola Ajuwon of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.

Professor Adebowale emphasized that meaningful research cannot be done in isolation and that teamwork and collaboration are essential for building stronger health systems and improving public health in Africa. He commended the SHARPER initiative, which brings together six African institutions to implement the project.

The SHARPER project is a six-year initiative funded by the Science for Africa Foundation in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation. The project aims to build the capacity of African regulatory agencies and ethics committees to respond better to pandemics and health emergencies. The consortium includes institutions from South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Cameroon, and Nigeria, with the University of Ibadan serving as the lead institution.

The project team, which includes representatives from partner institutions, visited the University of Ibadan to discuss project implementation and sign a Memorandum of Understanding .
