University of Ibadan Vice-Chancellor Charges Graduates to Lead Change and Claim Rightful Place

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, has urged fresh graduates to seize every opportunity, lead the change Nigeria needs, and claim their rightful place at the top.

He made this charge during the second day of the 2025 Convocation ceremonies, where graduands were admitted to First Degrees in various faculties.

Professor Adebowale encouraged the graduates to utilize their skills and knowledge to propel themselves forward, even in uncertain times, and to believe in Nigeria's potential to become a leading nation. He highlighted the University's contributions to human capital development, research outputs, and community service, and noted that the institution is proud to graduate a new generation of innovative entrepreneurs, skilled professionals, visionary leaders, and talented change-makers.

The commencement speaker, Mrs. Bola Olajomi-Otubu, MD/CEO Beige Spaces Limited and a UI alumna, warned the graduands that life after UI will test their resolve and determination. She advised them to remember their foundation, have faith in themselves, and sail above challenges. Mrs. Olajomi-Otubu shared her own journey, emphasizing the importance of practical wisdom, building community, and finding purpose to stay anchored through tough times. She urged the graduates to choose "the hard and the right" over "the easy and the quick," and to be builders of the future, believing that their story matters and that they can rise from challenges to purpose.
