University of Maiduguri Holds 25th Combined Convocation – 20,164 Graduates Awarded

The University of Maiduguri successfully held its 25th Combined Convocation Ceremony on Friday, 28 November 2025, conferring degrees and diplomas on 20,164 graduates. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was represented by Minister of State for Education Professor Suwaiba Ahmad at the event held at the university’s Convocation Square in Maiduguri.

The graduating cohort comprised 66 PhD recipients, 1,020 master’s degree holders, 3,851 postgraduate diploma awardees, 13,624 bachelor’s degree graduates and 1,603 diploma recipients. Among the bachelor’s graduates, 205 achieved First‑Class Honours; 3,114 obtained Second‑Class Upper Division and 9,501 finished with Second‑Class Lower Division.

Vice‑Chancellor Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, in his address, highlighted the graduates’ “hard work, sacrifice and dedication” and noted that the achievement underscores the university’s resilience amid security challenges in the region. He also announced the conferment of honorary doctorates on three distinguished Nigerians and the title of Professor Emeritus on three senior academics for their contributions to scholarship.

The ceremony marked the university’s 50th anniversary, with calls for alumni, partners and philanthropists to support the UNIMAID Endowment Fund aimed at research, infrastructure and scholarships.
