University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital Celebrates Rich History and Achievements

The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), a premier healthcare institution in Nigeria, boasts a rich history and impressive achievements.

Officially commissioned on July 23, 1983, by former President Aliyu Shehu Shagari, the hospital has grown to become a leading healthcare provider in the North East Geopolitical Zone .

With a total bed capacity of 1305, the UMTH has 17 clinical and 14 non-clinical departments, catering to a population of over 30 million people across six states, including Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, and Gombe. The hospital also serves a significant number of patients from neighboring countries, such as Cameroon, Niger, and Chad .
