University of Maiduguri Welcomes New Substantive Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Laminu Mele

Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele has officially assumed duty as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri today, Monday, September 23, 2024.

His first day commenced with briefings from Yusuf Ali Nande, Deputy Registrar and Head of Department of the Vice-Chancellor's office.

Prof. Mele's appointment was approved by the University's governing council on September 18, 2024, following the recommendation of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board ¹. With over two decades of dedicated service in teaching, Prof. Mele brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He is a distinguished scholar of English Language and Linguistics.

Prior to his appointment, Prof. Mele served as the university's acting Vice-Chancellor and held various academic and administrative positions, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Central Administration) ¹. A native of Mafa Local Government Area of Borno, Prof. Mele is well-equipped to lead the university towards greater heights.
