The Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has appointed Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike as the new Registrar, effective October 23, 2024. UNIZIK Governing Council Appoints as New Registrar

The Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has officially announced the appointment of Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike as the institution’s new Registrar. The appointment, which takes effect from October 23, 2024, was confirmed by the university's Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Amb. Greg Ozumba Mbadiwe.

The appointment comes at a time of heightened tensions within the university, as recent controversies surrounding the Vice-Chancellor position have cast a spotlight on UNIZIK’s administrative affairs. In a press statement, Amb. Greg Mbadiwe expressed the council’s confidence in Nwokike’s capabilities, noting that her five-year term aligns with the Federal Government's standard conditions for federal universities in Nigeria.

"We extend our warmest congratulations to Mrs. Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike on her appointment. We are confident in her ability to fulfill the duties of the chief administrative officer and support the university's commitment to excellence," the statement read. Nwokike will be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for managing the day-to-day administrative functions of the institution, except in areas handled by the bursar, as specified by the university’s Act.

Nwokike, a legal expert, is distinguished for being the first Awka indigene to be appointed Registrar since the establishment of Nnamdi Azikiwe University. Her educational qualifications, including an LLM in Maritime Law and Policy and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), along with a law degree from the same institution, have positioned her as a leading candidate in the rigorous selection process. She is currently pursuing a PhD, further highlighting her dedication to academic advancement.

The council's choice of Nwokike is seen as a significant milestone in UNIZIK's journey toward reinforcing high standards in educational administration, following an intensive nationwide search and evaluation of suitable candidates.
