UNIZIK Safety Department Celebrates Staff Games Victory
The Safety Department of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, held a celebration at the Security Headquarters on Friday, September 12, 2025, to mark their outstanding performance in the recently concluded university staff games, where they emerged overall winners.

Chief Ken Chukwurah, Chief Safety Officer, opened the ceremony by expressing gratitude to God for the victory and appreciation to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Coral Arinze-Umobi, for her leadership and positive impact on the university community. He also commended the university management for prioritizing student safety through effective policies.

Chief Chukwurah highlighted the importance of a secure and peaceful campus environment for learning and research, noting that the department’s diligence played a key role. He urged the state government to improve security in surrounding areas, including Ifite-Awka and neighboring villages, to further protect students living off-campus.

Speaking on behalf of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Okey Ikegbunam, Deputy Registrar, Student Affairs, congratulated the Safety Department, praising their unity and initiative in celebrating their success.

Goodwill messages from Prof. Makodi Biereenu-Nnabugwu, Dean of Student Affairs; Prof. Stella Anasi, represented by Mrs. Mbakwe Adaora; Acting Director of Sports, Mrs. Anthonia Chukwudi; and Prof. Derek Orji, Chairman of the Sports Committee, all lauded the department’s foresight and commitment.

The ceremony culminated in the presentation of awards and medals to the department’s personnel and staff who participated in the staff games and cultural displays, celebrating their achievement and contributions.
