In a swift response to deteriorating conditions in student accommodations, the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Professor Bond Ugochukwu Anyaehie, has issued a one-week ultimatum to resolve critical hostel challenges.

During a strategic meeting with Student Hall Governors and the Students' Union Government (SUG) on Monday, January 20, 2026, the Vice-Chancellor directed the Director of Works, Engr. Joseph Okoye, to immediately repair and upgrade facilities.

Emergency Power Support: To combat persistent outages, the Vice-Chancellor approved the weekly release of 500 litres of diesel to fuel the hostel power plants, ensuring more reliable electricity for residents.

Facility Repairs: The directive covers the immediate fix of non-functional toilet facilities—specifically in the male hostels—and the restoration of campus Wi-Fi services.

Infrastructure Review: Management has committed to addressing the shortage of bed spaces and improving general bedding conditions.

SUG President, Comrade Samuel Ochuba, who presented the students' grievances, noted that the intervention was timely as students were struggling with "epileptic power supply and unconducive living environments."

Professor Anyaehie urged the student leaders to maintain "maturity and constructive engagement" while promising that his administration would prioritize human-centric welfare policies. This rapid response marks a significant shift in the university's management approach to student living standards under the current leadership.
