VC Hands Over Newly Constructed Classroom Block to FUNIS

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, today, September 2, 2026, handed over a newly completed Classroom Block to FUNAAB International School, FUNIS, ahead of the commencement of the new academic session.

The facility, funded through the University's Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, comprises classrooms, offices and other essential facilities designed to provide additional learning and administrative spaces for the school.

Speaking during the handover, the Vice-Chancellor clarified that the exercise was a formal handover of the completed facility to the school management for immediate use.

He disclosed that the project was approved at the University's Council meeting in January 2026, with construction commencing thereafter and completed in June 2026. He explained that the decision to hand over the facility immediately was aimed at ensuring its productive use, particularly with the new academic session fast approaching.

Prof. Kehinde commended the past and present Principals of FUNIS for their commitment and dedication to the development of the school, noting that their efforts had contributed significantly to sustaining its standards.

He described the new classroom block as a befitting facility that would further strengthen the learning environment at FUNIS. He urged the school management to ensure proper maintenance and sustainability of the facility, assuring that the University Management would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving teaching and learning at the school.

Receiving the facility, the Principal of FUNIS, Mr. Olusola Ilori, expressed appreciation to the University Management and the Directorate of Physical Planning for the project, describing it as a welcome development that would enhance teaching, learning and administrative activities.

Following the handover, the Vice-Chancellor inspected ongoing and completed projects at the FUNIS Kitchen, Council Lodge and Recreation Centre. At the FUNIS Kitchen, the Vice-Chancellor was informed that work was still ongoing, with completion expected before the resumption of the school.

Conducting the Vice-Chancellor round the facilities, the Director, Directorate of Physical Planning, Engr. Kehinde Bamisile, provided updates on the progress and status of the various projects.

On the Council Lodge, Engr. Bamisile disclosed that the project was approved in January 2026, commenced in February and was completed in July 2026. The newly constructed Council Lodge comprises eight en-suite bedrooms, each with an attached toilet facility, alongside supporting facilities, including a conference room, restaurant and kitchen.

At the renovated Recreation Centre, the Director explained that the facility, which had previously remained unused, had been transformed following the intervention of the Vice-Chancellor.

He noted that the Recreation Centre now features a sitting area, toilet facilities, storage spaces, a swimming pool area, landscaping and fencing, providing an improved recreational environment for members of the University Community.

Also accompanying the Vice-Chancellor during the inspection were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Olusegun Idowu, who also serves as Chairman, FUNAAB Schools Management Board; the Senior Deputy Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mr. Moses Ayanda; and other University officials.
