VC Seeks Stronger Media Partnership as Wetland FM Visits FUGA

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Gashua (FUGA) Yobe State, Professor Yaqub Ahmed Geidam, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to forging stronger partnerships with media organisations to promote quality education, research, innovation, and community development.
Professor Geidam gave the assurance on Wednesday when he received a delegation from Wetland FM, Gashua, led by the station's General Manager Fatima Audu Yusuf, who was represented by the Uzairu Sulaiman Bal, head of progarmmes on a courtesy visit to his office.
The Vice-Chancellor described the media as a critical stakeholder in national development, stressing that strategic collaboration between higher education institutions and media organisations would enhance public awareness of academic achievements and developmental initiatives.
He urged the station to make greater use of the University's pool of experts as resource persons for educational and public enlightenment programmes, particularly on issues affecting local communities. stressing the need for sustained media campaigns on tree planting, noting that preserving the environment requires collective action and continuous public education.
Professor Geidam also advocated for programmes that would educate farmers on modern and sustainable agricultural practices, improve seedlings, farming techniques, and other innovations capable of improving agricultural productivity and livelihoods across the state and the region.
Earlier, Bal said the visit was to congratulate Professor Geidam on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor and to identify areas of mutual cooperation. He identified advertising the University's academic programmes, admission opportunities, research breakthroughs, and other institutional activities as key areas where the station could partner with the University to increase public awareness and engagement.
In his remarks, the university Registrar, Dr Abubakar Mamuda, acknowledged the support of the station in showcasing the university's programmes and achievements adding, that a strong and enduring partnership between FUGA and Wetland FM would enhance the institution's visibility and strengthen its engagement with the wider community.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the Deputy Director, Information and Public Relations Directorate, Mallam Adamu Saleh, called on Wetland FM to leverage the University's vast reservoir of academic expertise by featuring its scholars in in-depth interviews and discussions on contemporary societal challenges and practical solutions.
Also present at the meeting were the University Librarian, Dr Adam Saleh Gambo, and members of staff of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations.
