Vice President Shettima, Ooni of Ife Attend Landmark Combined Convocation at Kashim Ibrahim University

Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU), Maiduguri one of the fastest-growing universities in Nigeria and formerly known as Borno State University has made history with the successful conduct of its first combined Convocation Ceremony, marking a major milestone in the institution’s development.

The colourful ceremony attracted an array of distinguished personalities from across the country, including Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, several state governors, top government officials, and over 20 traditional rulers, underscoring the growing national prominence of the university.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babagana Gutti disclosed that the university graduated a total of 2,264 students, with 28 students earning First Class honours, a testament to the institution’s commitment to academic excellence despite its relatively young age.

In a major boost to youth empowerment, the Governor of Borno State and Visitor to the University, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, announced automatic permanent employment for the best-graduating students of Kashim Ibrahim University.

The governor described the gesture as part of his administration’s deliberate effort to reward excellence, promote merit, and strengthen human capital development in post-conflict Borno State.

Demonstrating federal support for education in the state, Vice President Kashim Shettima donated two electric buses to the University to enhance campus transportation. He also announced postgraduate scholarships for outstanding graduates of the University, enabling them to further their studies and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Major highlight of the ceremony was the formal investiture and installation of the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Kabiyesi, Arole Oodua, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, CFR, as the Chancellor of Kashim Ibrahim University.

The installation was performed by the Visitor to the University, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum assisted by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Babagana Gutti, symbolising unity, cultural heritage, and the University’s national outlook.

The historic convocation ceremony reflects Kashim Ibrahim University’s rapid rise in Nigeria’s higher education landscape and reinforces its role as a centre of learning, leadership, and hope for the future of Borno State and the nation at large.
