Wema Bank Selects Bayero University Kano Students for N30M Digital Technology Innovation Competition

 

Three students from Bayero University Kano (BUK) have been selected to compete in the grand finale of Wema Bank's digital technology innovation competition, "Hackaholics 5.0," scheduled for November 2024 in Lagos.

 

 

The selected students are:

 

 

- Mariam Adebimpe Tahir, 300-level Computer Science student, creator of the Unifi platform

- Usman Kamaldeen, 400-level Cyber Security student, developer of the Chiabinchi platform

- Ahmad Ibrahim, 400-level Mechanical Engineering student, designer of the Digiland platform

 

 

Additionally, Sule Wisdom Abdulhamid Ahmad and Muhammad Abduljalil won laptops and iPhones in a raffle draw.

 

 

The students were chosen after a three-day pitch event held from September 10-13, 2024, at the New Hall of the Deanery of Student Affairs. Out of 56 shortlisted participants, four students were selected to represent BUK in the competition.

Wema Bank's Innovation Programme Lead, Mr. Taslim Allis, described Hackaholics as a platform supporting young entrepreneurs with cash prizes ranging from N10M to N30M.

 

 

Regional Manager of Wema Bank, Mrs. Aisha Musa, encouraged students to develop innovative ideas that can compete globally, highlighting the bank's partnerships with corporations like Amazon and Meta.

 

 

BUK's Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Shamsuddeen Umar, thanked Wema Bank for selecting BUK and providing students with this opportunity.
