ABU committed to ICT infrastructure development - Vice-Chancellor

 

Ahmadu Bello University is committed to the provision of ICT infrastructure and Advanced Technology Systems for improved ICT-based knowledge to the University community for teaching, research and administrative activities.

This was disclosed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, during the 43rd Convocation of the University held last month.

He said that with the support of the Africa Centres of Excellence the institution acquired anti-plagiarism software and subscribed to several high-quality online journals to support research and postgraduate activities. 

The Vice-Chancellor said that the additional ICT infrastructure procured by the University in 2023 included the provision of 10km of optic fibre, 310 internet bandwidth, 20 solar infrastructure, 20 access switches, and 80 access points obtained under the NCC broadband project. 

He also said that the entire phase II of the University has now been covered with optic figure and broadband has been fully deployed. 

The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that the University was offered Microsoft 365 AI for Education License by Microsoft, saying that this has extended the capacity of the University to deploy online courses and conduct of virtual viva voce.

Prof. Bala, who expressed satisfaction with the University’s ICT development, said that other ICT facilities provided during the period included 2 Gbps watt, 30 access points, and 18 interactive boards. 

Commenting on sports and recreation, the Vice-Chancellor explained that the University continued to advance in sporting programmes under the technical supervision of its professional coaches. 

Bala, who stressed that the institution has been exceptional in quite a number of games and other sporting activities in recent times, also disclosed that the University hosted a total of five sporting events in 2023. 

These sporting events, according to him, included Nationwide National Football League, Savannah Conference Basketball League for Females, Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) 3rd Edition, and Annual Vice-Chancellor’s Cup, which was tagged ABU Diamond Jubilee Football in commemoration of ABU @ 60.
