Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University has made registration for the Tertiary Institutions Social Health Insurance Programme compulsory for all students. The university's Students' Affairs Division issued a directive on April 3, 2025, requiring students to register for the program.

Students are expected to register at the University Medical Centre at Yelwa and Gubi campuses from April 7, 2025, to April 11, 2025. Failure to register will result in students not receiving medical attention at the University Medical Centres and being barred from taking the first-semester examinations for the 2024/2025 academic session.
